Your questions about cash register requirements.
Does it have to be an electronic till? What does TSE mean? What is planned for 2028? Find answers and detailed explanations with sources.
Turn one big question into three specific ones.
“What do I need to do?” is an understandable starting point. For a useful answer, it helps to discuss your business, existing equipment and planned changes separately.
Questions for your business
Describe your activities, sales locations and particular circumstances. Which processes are clearly documented, and where are you unsure how to assess them? Specific facts let your tax adviser work more precisely than a general question about register obligations.

Ask about your system's functions and request a demonstration. Where can you see TSE status, how is a receipt provided and how do you obtain the data? Record the answers so you can put them in context again later.

Ask questions about the proposal separately: which definition of turnover is used, which year is meant and which conditions remain unresolved? Answering these questions does not establish that a new legal obligation already applies to your business.

Do I need to buy a new register now?
The plans for 2028 do not create a blanket obligation to buy a register today. What matters is the rules already in force, your business processes and whether your existing register is suitable. Our check helps you separate these questions.
Has the cash-register obligation for 2028 already been enacted?
On 23 September 2026, the Federal Cabinet approved a government draft. This is a step in the legislative process, not yet an enacted law. Changes remain possible.
Can I use the check without signing up?
